OILY SKIN? READ THIS BEFORE YOU GET MICROBLADING

Oily skin requires a little more consideration when you’re thinking about getting Microblading. If you know or think you have oily skin, and you’re thinking about semi-permanent brows - read this first!

Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattoo where the pigment is implanted under the skin. An experienced Microblading artist will be able to easily see your skin type, so they can assess what will be most suitable for you long term. Oily skin will affect the results.

How does having oily skin affect microblading?

oil in the skin causes a faster natural exfoliation process, and the oil glands will also cause Microblading pigment to fade faster. This means that you may be required to have more frequent touch-ups compared to someone with a dry skin type.

Does this mean I shouldn’t do Microblading?

Not exactly, we use a specific type of Microblading pigment that is glycerin-based. This has proved to be quite effective on some oily skins. Your artists will assess your skin type on the day, and see if you are suitable for this type of pigment. In most cases, you can have Microblading, the hair stroke look.

Some oily skins are not suitable for Microblading on their own, however, we have other options for this, so you can still achieve beautiful eyebrows that won’t rub off.

What are your options? Ombre VS Microblading

Ombre is a technique that gives a beautiful soft powdered or pixeled look, perfect for clients who have very oily skin. This treatment gradually adds soft pixels and layers the pigment in the brows, to give you more definition. This technique isn't any less-natural looking than microblading - and it still means you get to wake up in the perfect shape every day! You can also do a combination of both hair strokes and ombre. This will give a better lasting effect for oily skin than Microbladng on its own. Ultimately, it comes down to what style is going to suit your face best and give you the longest-lasting results.

Here are some images of what a combination of ombre and hair strokes looks like:

The only way to see what will suit your skin type best is by having a consultation so your artists can assess your skin type and guide you on what treatment will suit you best. We also offer this service via our website - you can send us photos of your brows and skin type by submitting this form here - and one of our cosmetic tattooists will send you recommendations as to which treatments will work best for your skin type.

Ombre brows:

Ombre brows are becoming very popular due to their low maintenance. This look is perfect for those who love henna, brow tinting, or a softly filled-in look, and want the results to last longer. This technique is ideal for someone with very oily skin or if you naturally prefer a more defined brow.

Aftercare for oily skin and Microblading or Ombre:

You may not be asked to use aftercare gel in the first few days following your Microblading treatment. A healing gel is given to you so that your skin doesn’t become too dry. If you have already have oily skin then you aren’t at risk of drying out since your skin does so naturally.

We may also switch your heavy cream to a lightweight gel as well as encourage you to blot your brows with a slightly damp cotton pad. away excess oils is going to make your microblading heal as crisply as possible. The more oils you leave on your skin, the more blurry your microblading will heal.
